MOS device technologies using Ge/III-V for future logic LSIs
Shinichi Takagi
Professor
Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, School of Engineering
The University of Tokyo
In order to realize the logic LSI platform under sub-10 nm nodes, the R&D of MOS devices using Ge/III-V channels have been extensively conducted in terms of the ultra-low power operation due to supply voltage reduction. The MOS devices using Ge/III-Vs are expected to operate even under low supply voltages without performance penalty because of the high carrier mobility and also to realize tunneling FETs to reduce the voltage used for the sub-threshold region in comparison with CMOS. In this presentation, the current status, the critical issues and the future prospective of the Ge/III-V CMOS and TFETs are addressed and our related device/process technologies are introduced.
13:20-14:20
End of electron device miniaturization and the world after that
Hiroshi Iwai
Professor Emeritus
Institute of Innovative Research, Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology
Tokyo Institute of Technology
The development of the electronics, which realized IoT and AI, has been conducted by the miniaturization of electron devices such as vacuum tubes and semiconductor devices. However, it became clear that the miniaturization will reach its limit in several years. I this lecture, the reasons for the limit are explained and the world after that is predicted in medium and long ranges.
